Instagram Reels: Is this the New TikTok?
With the ban on the app Tik-Tok, millions of tik-tokers were left clueless as to what next. The Government of India issued a permanent ban on TikTok and was on effect from 29th July 2020. The platform had reach like no other app and consisted of 178 million monthly active users in India with an average time of 36 minutes per day spent on the app.
Many other India-based micro-video sharing apps are now gaining popularity. Instagram has also has set foot in the game. Instagram has released its new feature called Instagram Reels in India.
Why Instagram Reels?
Previously this feature was being run on tests in countries like Germany, France, and even brazil. But with the onset of the ban on various Chinese-based apps and TikTok being one of them, Instagram has found a way to seize this opportunity. Instagram reels can lure content creators from TikTok to making content on Instagram with the help of this feature.
Unlike Tiktok, Instagram Reels is a feature within the Instagram app. This feature allows users to create short videos of about 15 seconds and share them on Explore, feed, and also via DMs.
This feature being an integrated part of Instagram, will also encourage other Instagram users to try this feature out. Currently, the reels feature is being tested out in the mentioned countries, and will soon be available to all users based on the response it gets.
Although this feature was already on test in other countries, noticing its release a few days after the ban on TikTok does show that this feature is a response to the TikTok ban. Now, content creators can use this feature to create short videos, add filters and music to it and share it on the platform to grow their reach.
